Well, my ears are ringing this morning. Getting too old to rock and roll, I guess. We went to go see Suburban Legends, Patent Pending, Zolof The Rock And Roll Destroyer, and some other band at the Anaheim HOB last night. It was the album release show for SL’s new disk – Infectious. Suburban Legends really puts on an awesome show, but no one knows who they are (not enough angst in their music, probably). And the few people who DO know them aren’t old enough to drink. Probably to drive, either. Which is mostly because once people get to be about 22, and get careers and nice cars and steady girlfriends/boyfriends, they just give up on new music altogether. For the rest of their lives, they’ll keep listening to the same stuff that was popular during their high school and college, eventually becoming so out of touch that once they have kids of their own, they’ll condemn their taste in music and start the cycle of rebellion and capitulation all over again. At least that’s my working theory, anyway.
Anyway, so as I was saying… great show, but not nearly enough people there, given how good the bill was, and how cheap the tickets were (except the fees). Suburban Legends is an OC band that’s been around for a while, and I hadn’t even heard of them until last Halloween, when they played with Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto. They killed it. So now we’re fans. Even though the new album is a little too poppy for my tastes. They still rock. Sort of like what ska would sound like if you mixed it with disco. Patent Pending I discovered via the bargain bin at a record store in Austin or Berkeley or something… once in a while I’ll pick up a couple disks just based on intuition, and sometimes I discover something awesome that I otherwise wouldn’t have ever known about. Patent Pending is one of those bands. I bought their disk again at the show even though I already have it. Gotta support the little bands. Zolof I had heard of, but never paid much attention to… bought a couple of their albums, and I’ll give em a listen over the next couple days… hopefully once the ringing in my ears stops :)

we saw them last night – they are so awesome…I am forever grateful to you for turning me on to them. Got their new CD which rocks too. Though I must admit…there was something totally wrong with running into my daughters 12 year old friends there…weird.
