Totally Rad Action Mix Tutorial – Layers and Layer Masks

First of all, let me say that right now I hate my computer. This thing was edited and ready to go this morning at 10, and it took me until about 5 to get Premiere to render the file out without crashing, causing audio sync issues, or just otherwise doing really dumb stuff. I’ve been in post-production hell.

That rant aside, I now have for you the third of our new series of video tutorials, which will help those of you who are confused about layers. If you are stumped about how to use Yin / Yang, Big Blue, Green With Envy, Pro Retouch, or Good vs. Evil, then this is for you. At 11 minutes long, it’s much more than I had planned, but as it turns out, there’s also a lot of crap to talk about… so without any further delay, enjoy this:

Nice video! I was entertained while I learned! :) I didn’t think to use the gradient tool with Big Blue. That’s awesome!

So, when is the book coming out?

It’s so cool that you take time to do this. You are quite the entertainer (and a man of many costumes, I must say. You’ve worn Sgt. Peppers, Freddy Krueger and Urban Cowboy. Hmmmm….what’s next, HA!)

I LOVE the gradient tool with Big Blue – I’d have NEVER thought of that. And I agree…after figuring it out, I couldn’t proof without Pro Retouch and Yin/Yang. Brilliant.

Wow, I can’t believe you did that in 1 take! I am an actor and you did better than most of my actor friends. Did you have someone with a prompter? Thanks for the tips, I have been admiring your actions for a while so maybe now I’ll buy them! LOL. Have a great day.

Hi, I really dig this video tutorial, including your hidden sarcasm. Yeah, it’s a lot of crap, but this is some good sh*t! Thanks for helping me enjoy your actions even more. BTW, why do you remind me of Rex Simons???

That rocked! I wish I had that when I first bought your actions!!! It really, really helps, and I’ll be using the actions much more often! I so don’t learn well by reading, more by visual, so this was an awesome tutorial! I hope you’ll do many more! You did a great job!

Thanks for waking me up! I was waiting for the video to load in my quiet office and almost screamed when the rockin’ music came up. I am now awake and ready to put in a full 8 hours.

Doug — Thanks for the videos. Very nicely done; love the material and the presentation.

Here’s a video wishlist for you.

Sample of using each action (okay, so that actually counts as a whole bunch, but I thought I’d keep it simple and just summarize).

Effectively using a tablet with the actions and settings you like to use with your tablet.

Uhhhh … Okay, guess that’s all for now.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

Thank you! I started school for Graphic Design to apply towards my photography career. Well, I have no time for school because I am too swamped with my photography. Which is terrific. I bought your TRA back in the fall and love them! Since I am not fully advanced with my Photoshop skills this is fantastic! I seriously feel like you explain things way better than what my “design” teacher did…which was more like teach yourself. What a way for you to sell your great product too! I would be broke if everyone selling products did such great video tutorials!! ~amy~
