Kristen Kalp, our TRA Customer Service Wiz, recently started a little charity project for the holidays. It began with a simple idea: that one family, who couldn’t otherwise afford her photography, would receive $1000 worth of goods and/or services for Christmas. People would nominate someone they thought could use the gift on her blog, and a winner would be chosen by Xmas eve (see http://www.essentialimagery.com/blog/ for her contest details).
From there, the project grew into a worldwide effort, with dozens of photographers agreeing to have similar giveaways for families in need. The project now has a homepage (http://givingisawesome.com) which serves as a hub for people to find photographers, and as a vehicle for promoting the whole idea. I believe in this project, and the more people get involved, the more families benefit. It’s 100% grassroots, driven entirely by a desire to give back to the world this holiday season.
If you like the idea as much as I do, then give it a little love on your blog, and maybe even join up to donate as well. So whaddya say? Head on over to http://givingisawesome.com and get involved! It’s endeavors like this that the world needs right now.
If anyone expresses interest, I might donate a session as well… I don’t shoot much anymore, but I think I still remember how to use a camera :) Not sure how I’d handle prints and such, though… I don’t run a portrait studio… Still gotta figure it out…
